From the ancient times the Bodo people have been living their livelihood mainly through agriculture. Agiculture or Cultivation is the main source of earning money of Bodo people. But now a days some of Bodo people are going to run some small own bussiness like- Stationery Shop, Hardware shop and so on. There are many myths, beliefs and festivals in the Bodo society in relation to agriculture. Among them "Bwisagu" is the main festival which is related to the agriculture. The Bodo people follow certain religious functions and observances while selecting land, sowing of seeds, harvesting etc. They have particular systems of determining and measuring the rain water for each month. Agriculture is not only earning means of livelihood of the Bodo people but it has also great impact on the Bodo society and their day to day life.
Most of the Bodo people live in plains, and remote villages. They are expert in clearing Jungle (Forest) and if the land is lack of fertile then they leave it and search for new forest areas. Through the Bodos are highly laborious still they use the traditional ancient system of cultivation. But now a days they use new technology system of cultivation. Their main ancient tools of cultivation are a pair of Bullocks, a pair of Bufallos, Nangal, Jungal, Dangur, Khodal, Silli and some other tools which the Bodo people make for themselves. Among Bodos, many Bodo people are not able to use the modern technology tools for cultivation due to the poor financial condition. They cultivate mainly rice. But in winter season many other cultivations are also cultivated. Like- Potato, Wild Muster Plant, Cabbage, Brinjal and so many vegitable.
Bodo women are also hard workers. They also help their husband in many fields. During Summer, Bodo people start to cultivate then Bodo women plant the rice in the paddy field.
Bodo people usually prefer the river banks as the best places for cultivation. Rice is treated by the Bodo society as Mainao (Goddess Lakshmi). The Principal house of each Bodo family contains a Mainao. Really "Mainao" or the Goddess Lakshmi is kept in the corner of kitchen house. which is attached with principal house.
